A 4-bedroom Newport Beach home that had been added onto twice and never quite pulled together. The clients, a young family of five, wanted a primary residence that felt grounded, hosted easily, and didn’t fight the coastal light. They were ready to commit to a full multi-room engagement.
Over six weeks, John designed the open-plan living, dining, family room, primary bedroom, and entryway as one continuous space. Three rounds of moodboard revisions landed a palette of warm whites, weathered oak, and deep clay accents. Detailed layout plans relocated the dining table to capture the afternoon light, a custom built-in absorbed the family’s book and game clutter, and a curated furniture plan replaced eight mismatched pieces with five that finally belong together.
The family hosts Sunday dinners in the dining room for the first time since moving in three years ago. The primary bedroom became the calmest room in the house, and the entryway now does the job of catching backpacks, mail, and shoes without looking like it is.
